Saving Downham Fire Station

Downham Fire Station is one of 12 London fire stations under threat of closure, given that they deal with over 800 calls a year - wouldn't closing Downham be a safety risk?

Firefighters are modern day superheroes who save lives and any brave person who choses this career deserves the support of everyone and not the threat of job cuts. (There's over 500 London firefighters facing the threat of unemployment)

Given the tough and necessary jobs they do, closing down any Fire Station would be a huge loss and put people's lives in danger - in an emergency, every second counts.

This applies to anyone saving lives so maybe we can stop closing down all our A and E units while we are at it.

If you think life is worth saving, perhaps you'd like to offer your support.

Everythings Rosie Bubble Trouble Review

We were sent a copy of "Everything's Rosie: bubble trouble and other stories" to review which luckily arrived during Blake's preschool easter half term.

There are only a few cartoons which will keep both my 1 year old girl and 3 year old boy entertained at the same time and an episode of Everything's Rosie is one of them, it's colours, soundtrack and characters appeal to them both - actually they both like Raggles the Rabbit best!

Full of music, nature and stories - there is as much education as entertainment in these episodes.

Both my little ones were engrossed in the episode about "Pirate Treasure" and another one all about sharing toys - I thought it was quite apt as they often share toys! I'm sure I have a couple of pirates on my hands with their love of anything treasure related at the moment!

As each episode is its own little story, it really doesn't matter if you are new to Everything's Rosie or which episode you watch in what order.

The press release:
Rosie and Raggles set for Bubble Trouble

Brand new Everything’s Rosie DVD launched in March
Rosie, Raggles and friends are back for more fun-filled adventures, excitement and laughter in the latest DVD compilation featuring episodes from Series 2 of Everything’s Rosie – ‘Bubble Trouble and other stories’!

Hitting shelves this March, what better way for pre-schoolers to spend the Easter holiday break than to join Rosie, everyone’s favourite loveable rabbit Raggles and all their friends on a journey of discovery. Sparking the imagination of pre-schoolers worldwide, episodes including ‘Never Play Tennis with an Egg’ and ‘The Time Travelling Tree’ are a must have treat for Rosie fans.

‘Bubble Trouble and other stories’ brings together thirteen tales from Rosie’s garden – the perfect opportunity for pre-schoolers to experience a world of bubble-popping and much more this Easter holiday.

With timeless storylines and vibrant animation; combined with an educational ethos, these classic episodes of Everything’s Rosie will keep little ones engaged time and time again.

The Everything’s Rosie ‘Bubble Trouble’ DVD is now available from Sainsbury’s, The Hut and Amazon priced from RRP £6.99. Other Everything’s Rosie DVD titles by Universal include: ‘The Greatest Show in the Garden’ and ‘The Last Snowball’, both released in 2012 and available from Amazon, Asda, HMV, Morrisons, Play.com, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, The Hut at RRP £9.99 each.

Home love contest at fashion for home

“I submitted this picture to participate in the Home Love contest at Fashion For Home.”

I really wanted to enter this contest, after all £500 to spend on my home is a prize I've got to have a go at winning!

It was really tricky to decide which part of my home to enter because there are many things I love about it, but what made it super tricky is that we are trying to move so my home is.... Well it's just not as simple as being my home right now! Its all higgledy piggledy and full of boxes!

So, in the end, it came down to a choice of what home really is and we all know, home is all about your family!

I've taken a photo of Blake aged 3 and Maegan aged 1 (actually, this is the best of 11 as neither would play nice ha ha!)

Blake is crazy about superheroes especialy spider-man and batman so its normal for him to be in a cape or costume of some sort! Meg is a little madam and has pinched my red heels! She loves dolly, horses and Thomas the Tank Engine!

My fireplace is one if the things I love most about our home and I'll miss it when we move! When we bought our house there was just an awful 70's bar gas fire and the chimney all boarded up! It was love at first sight with this fire place!

Just seen are Roger and Eileen - our hearth elephants!

So, there we have it, home is where your kids are... end yes! they really are as mischievous as they look!

I hope you have enjoyed a brief glimpse at the chaos of my home!

Primary School Places Application When Planning to Move House

I couldn't find an awful lot of info on what to do if you will be moving before September when your first born is due to start school so I did the sensible thing and contacted both authorities for where we are now and where we will be.

Both gave pretty much the same advice, keep them updated on your situation and make it clear in the additional details boxes for the schools you are applying to.

Both me and hubby have spoken to them on the phone and emailed and I wrote lots of details for each school - I gave it lots of care and thought and used my old pr and marketing skills and love of writing to make sure each school got a well executed and tailored paragraph explaining our situation, that we are moving and that I don't drive and Blake has a younger sibling.

There was one school in particular who I put a little more into because it had a lot of history and value to our family as it was a school that Blake's father and other family members had attended and that his grandmother had taught there and the church it's attached to is our family church where we were married and both Blake and his sister christened.

We did everything asked by both authorities and applied before the deadline to 6 Bromley schools all in walking distance of our future area - we currently live in Bromley BR1 but one of the few bromley roads who are unfortunately on the border with lewisham.

Blake has been rejected from all 6 schools we applied to but I just feel really angry that everything I'd given and done wasn't even taken into consideration and that not even another school close to our choices wasn't offered. Every single one of my Bromley friends that I've spoken to since yesterday's announcements have either got 1st or 2nd choice.

I spoke to a Lady at lewisham who just confirmed that everything I'd provided wasn't considered - she actually elaborated and said that it never would have been, the only thing they consider is current address - she repeated this a few times that they ONLY consider address at time of application deadline and any other circumstances are not even remotely considered, it doesn't actually matter where you are when school starts in September.

When I asked what the point was of keeping both departments updated as requested, supplying all the extra info and filling in the additional circumstances boxes was - she wasn't really sure. I also commented that I hope by offering Blake this place, that another parent wasn't refused their first choice as a result - she commented that the school was not yet fully subscribed (I take that to mean its not popular, considering one of the Bromley schools I looked at had over 400 applications for just 60 places and most Bromley schools seem to get more applicants than places - probably because each child can have 6 choices)

Blake has been offered a place at a lewisham school - it's one I've passed - it doesn't really matter what the school itself is like, It's the parents and area that put me off! Smoking, swearing and arguments at the school gate are rife! This school will also be about an hour or more walk to reach from the area we are moving to - probably longer given Blake is still only 3 and his sister is 1 - it's also in the complete opposite direction to where Meg will be going to preschool.

Even though we live in Bromley now, will be living in a different area of Bromley before September and applied to 6 Bromley schools - it was a lewisham school we were offered.

Absolutely baffling, unfair and distressing current system.

I'd rather have not been offered anything than given such a poorly considered and unsuitable place - at no point at all was any thought given to our requirements and so called choices.

The letter and system refers to choice a lot but what it comes down to is one choice:
To accept the place at a school that you didn't even list as one of your six "choices" and is in an inaccessible area to where you will be in September or not accept the place at that school. None of our choices as parents actually matter and the advice given was pointless- we'd have been better off renting somewhere near our school choices for the duration of the application process rather than listening and following the advice given to us.

9 years since our first official date!

Today marks 9 years since my first official date with Rich, my husband.

We met in Selfridges where we were both working - he thought I was new! I'd been there for years but as a graduate my hours were different and role meant I was on the information desk a lot!

I actually liked that job mostly - the pay sucked and the hours were long but my colleague - Glenn Bayes was one of the funniest people I've met - he just kept me entertained all day long with his jokes and sketches! I loooooved the staff discount card and literally drooling over handbags and fawning over shoes (maybe a little too much) and I liked all the little projects I was allowed to do such as creating all the store directories! And most of all I made some great friends there and I met my wonderful husband there!

One of Rich's colleagues had told me that he liked me and we had about a month of tea breaks together, talked about a lot - we'd actually both recently given up looking for love (I think I could right a book on dating weirdos - from the bulimic man, the policeman who turned out to be married, the one that wanted to enslave me that I escaped from or even the one who turned out to have lied about being engaged and his age). Rich was Absolutely gorgeous, simply amazing and had the most loveliest eyes and seemed to be kind and genuine and full of funny stories to tell! I finally caved in and asked "so, are you going to ask me out on a proper date then?" I don't really believe in playing hard to get or any of the other "games" - I'm not very good at any game at all - not even pac man! And I believe if you want something, you go out and get it or ask for it - so I asked for it!

We went to the cinema, we met for a drink or two first (always a tricky one for me - I don't really drink so I have to be careful otherwise I can find myself rather giddy after half a babysham).

We watched Shaun of the Dead - couldn't ask for a more perfect first date film!

Mike the Knight Magical Mishaps DVD Review and Competition

We love Mike the Knight in our house so there were plenty of happy dances when the new DVD arrived for us to review!

This one has a magical theme - which went down really well with Blake (Aged 3) who currently likes  to perform magic tricks - either by making a drink disappear when the audience closes their eyes or pointing something pointy (usually a wax crayon) at you and declaring abeereraarrcabeeurghaaa I turned you into a frog!

Mike is very likeable and each episode always has a point to the story, a moral or something to think or talk about.

Mike the Knight "Magical Mishaps" DVD is a collection of 6 exciting episodes - 'The Polka-Dot Horse',
'Sir Super',
'The Many Knights',
'The Mission Mess',
'The Glendragon News'
and 'The Real Sword'. and runs for 72 minutes.

Both my children enjoy watching Mike the Knight, theres something in the episodes that appeal to them equally and there were bits that made them roar with laughter - they both found it hilarious when Galahad was yellow and spotty!

This has been a great source of entertainment during Blake's preschool half term!
